Chiquita: Innovation in healthy snacks for kids

The Challenge

Chiquita is largely known in Europe for bananas, although in other markets they have a range of fruit-related snacks and drinks. We were tasked with developing new ‘truly healthy’ snacks to appeal to the children’s market.

The Approach

Starting the project with an ‘inspiration safari’ (visiting amusement arcades, children’s spa, play groups, child music therapist etc), we then ran an ‘Art’ workshop assisted by an artist who brought our ideas to life. From this we generated frameworks for needstates and emotional and functional benefits, which were then developed into full product and packaging concepts. These were then tested in multi-market research.

The Solution

A large range of ideas were generated, from fresh confectionary and drinks to sun-dried banana sticks and frozen fruit.

The Results

Several of the ideas tested scored as viable for launch in research. The most appropriate ideas to build Chiquita’s equity and incremental revenue were placed in their innovation pipeline.
