Super Bowl 2016 & social consciousness

Playing to the cultural trend we call Brandstanding, a surprising number of companies tried to show that social good matters to them in this year’s Super Bowl. From Anheuser Busch’s anti-drunk driving spot, their first on the topic since 2005, to Colgate’s first ever Super Bowl spot encouraging people to save water, to the NFL’s sponsorship of the group No More and their spot on domestic violence, we were exposed to lots of important topics that stood out from the usual mix of anthropomorphized animal ads. Perhaps most significantly, CBS’s halftime show brought us messages about marriage equality and black pride, a welcome change in tone from past years.
