The ubiquity of modern day smartphones has developed a modern resurgence in street photography. The traditional, battered and beaten Leica has been replaced with the glistening sheen of a brand new iPhone. The phone’s prevalence amongst the streets mean that snapping on one is a lot more subtle than the forceful clunk of an analogue camera. New York based, Jay Giampietro, is one such example. He pretends to take phone calls whilst discreetly snapping away at the world around him. And rather than waiting for a roll of film to develop, he uploads his shots straight onto Instagram providing a continuous visual diary. His work captures the eccentricity and whimsical nature of the streets, proving that whilst the technology may have changed the characters certainly haven’t.
